Tom started sailing when he was 9 years old in Sydney on his parent’s boat ‘Mercedes IV’ an Ex-Admirals Cup contender.
With his family, Tom moved to the warmer waters of the Whitsundays region and there raced on the family boat, a Farr 37 named ‘Out of the Blue’ and worked in the charter boat business when not racing.
Tom completed the 1997 Sydney to Hobart on 'Out of the Blue', coming second in their IMS division “E”. Aboard ‘After Midnight’ Tom completed the 2014 S2H which finished 4th on handicap overall and will be aboard her for this years’ event also.
‘Italian Job’, a Mumm 30 with a proven track record in the Manly area and winner of the 2015 Brisbane to Gladstone IRC Div 2 race was purchased by Tom in 2015.
Tom hopes to enter ‘Italian Job’ in longer races in 2017 and is pulling together the necessary crew to get the best out of her.
For SCOR 2016, Tom has crew travelling from Townsville and Sydney with SCOR veterans Tony and Dee (Husband and Wife), and Neil also crewing.
When asked why he wanted to race in SCOR, Tom answered because it is a professionally run, friendly and fun event allowing for competitive and fair racing with a good laugh in good company at the end of the day at a great location.
